The Forbes Norris MDA/ALS Research and Treatment Center carries the name and legacy of an internationally renowned physician in the field of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research and clinical care. It is the largest ALS clinical research center in the United States and is one of six national Muscular Dystrophy Association ALS Centers dedicated to ALS treatment and muscular dystrophy treatment.
The Forbes Norris MDA/ALS Research and Treatment Center has been at the forefront of neuromuscular disease research for over 25 years. The dedicated and experienced team of experts coordinate their efforts between clinical patient care, research studies, and creating a multifaceted resource for patients with neuromuscular diseases. On site basic research studies allow the Norris Center the uniquely advantaged position of directly applying new laboratory findings to clinical use for immediate testing in neuromuscular disease patients.
Through the Norris Center's excellent diagnostic capabilities we have been able to identify other treatable, or more benign conditions, in approximately 15% of patients who come to the Norris Center with a diagnosis of suspected ALS. It is our constant hope to recognize other conditions that look like ALS and might be susceptible to effective treatment.
Our diagnostic efforts involve a team of ALS experts using leading-edge techniques who work to provide a definitive diagnosis by comprehensive clinical evaluation. The latest imaging, electrodiagnostic testing, and nerve and muscle pathology form the nucleus of techniques used in the diagnostic process.
Led by Dr. Jonathan Katz, M.D., Director of Neuromuscular Research and the ALS Clinic, our knowledgeable staff is committed to providing the highest level of comprehensive patient care and management for all aspects of ALS. Interested ALS patients may be evaluated for involvement in any or our ongoing clinical research trials.
